“Sports not only build better athletes but also better people.”
—Julie Foudy
There are three types of involvement in competitive sports: none, professional, or enlightened amateur. Sports are useful for life, at a biological, social, and psychological level, so not being involved in them at all is a loss. Being a professional can be an extreme endeavor, with attending stresses, not always good for your health. The sweet spot is enlightened amateur, where you practice sports for health and fun.
Keeping track of your sports activities with a fitness tracker or a digital journal like Life x Mind, and assessing impact on your feelings and thoughts, is the basis of behavioral therapy measures, and of life mastery approaches. Professionals and amateurs alike benefit from tracking their mind along with their (sports) life.
