Consistency, Discipline, Rituals2024-10-21
“Quality is not an act, it is a habit.”
—Aristotle
Practice consistency, discipline and rituals to reduce anxiety, increase mood and improve cognition, using approaches established when (and associated with) performing well. This is being done, often but not always systematically, by top performers, such as top athletes. Consistency, Discipline and Rituals could also be of use to all of us to improve performance.
A systematic formalized way of doing it, Consistency Discipline Rituals-Behavioral Therapy (CDR-BT), could be used for the treatment of psychiatric patients, albeit carefully, as some of them have already excessive and disabling rituals, like those with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Having a checklist of things to do, prioritized and scheduled in your calendar, that reflects your long-term goals and values, is a good way to do it. Keeping track of your daily activities, monitoring how you feel and think, with a paper journal or app, is very useful.
